Mizan, companion app

Numbers shown with their method and limits

Mizan (ميزان) is a companion application for numerical analysis of the Quran text. Its rule is simple: show what was counted, how it was calculated, what was assumed, and what the result does not establish.

Overview

What it does

Numerical claims about scripture are easy to make and hard to check. Mizan works from an immutable corpus snapshot with a SHA-256 manifest, so every figure can be tied to a fixed text. Methods are registered, versioned and reproducible; random procedures use declared seeds.

A numerical pattern is a measurement, not a theological conclusion. Wherever a lens could mislead, Mizan names the comparison it is made against (the null model) and states the limits next to the chart.

What Mizan will not do

It will not tell you that a number proves a doctrine. It reports measurements and, for each, the question the result can and cannot answer.

  • Every lens carries a plain-language and a mathematical explanation.
  • Descriptive-only lenses say so; columns with different baselines are not compared.
  • Charts support rotate, zoom, camera presets, full screen and export.
How it works

Step by step

Fix the corpus

Import a read-only snapshot and hash it.

Choose a method

Counting, frequency, information or number-theory engines.

Run controls

Seeded permutation tests against a named null model.

Export

Charts as PNG or SVG; data as CSV or JSON; permalinks.

Features

What is inside

51 analysis families

All registered with prerequisites and guardrails; 613 legacy catalogue IDs mapped. Methods not yet implemented are reported as planned or blocked, never silently dropped.

24 perspectives in 3D

Verse terrain, Lorenz and Gini inequality, chronology tests, entropy, Zipf, rhythms, phase space, keyness, Benford and more, each an interactive chart.

Statistical controls

Permutation tests with seeded Monte Carlo, Benjamini-Hochberg correction across many comparisons.

Fātiḥah workbench

Verse, word, letter and abjad tables, repetition and declared pairing hypotheses for the opening surah.

FAQ

Common questions

Is Mizan part of Taaweel?

It is a separate application in the same family. It reads its own immutable snapshot of the Taaweel corpus and does not alter it.

Are the results reproducible?

Yes. The corpus is hashed, methods are registered and random procedures use declared seeds.

Does it support audio or other recitations?

Some families, such as audio duration and qirā'āt comparison, are registered but blocked until the required data is supplied, and are reported as blocked.
